Flower & Wolf – Calgary Restaurant Review

Recently opened in the Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire, Flower & Wolf welcomes locals and travellers with a bright, modern interior and delicious, comforting food and cocktails. The team at Flower & Wolf hosted me for an incredible evening to showcase their menu and celebrate their new space. We enjoyed cocktails on the patio and then a multi-course dinner inside where my friends and proceeded to eat all the things, some items so quickly that I did not get photos. We were hungry and the food was delicious!

The House Chop Salad was so good that we all ate our whole plates, not knowing how many plates were still to come! So many of my favourite salad ingredients in this one and they meshed so well. Split this one or order it with Chicken for a main course. I also highly recommend the Ahi Tuna Tartare served with avocado, celery, yuzu hot sauce, black sesame crackers and the Beef Tartare served with oyster aioli, dill, caper, and fennel crackers.

The two side dishes that I will definitely force people to order whenever I go back are the Greens and the Mac & Cheese. It’s been a long time since I have had steamed spinach as good as this side dish at Flower & Wolf and the Mac & Cheese was just cheesy enough to handle the rich and spicy additions of double smoked bacon and jalapenos.

Our main courses were the Roasted Chicken, the 32 oz Tomahawk, and the Maple-Glazed Salmon. All three were really good but my favourite was the Maple-Glazed Salmon served with pickled fennel, radish, grilled lemon.

Banoffee Pie was easily the crowd favourite for dessert but if you are looking for something not-too-sweet, the Coconut Cream pie is perfect.

After dinner, Flower & Wolf took us across the bridge to Calgary Folk Fest and then we returned to our rooms at Sheraton Suites where a nightcap awaited on the coffee table. 

I was staying alone so I made my Orange Spiced Old Fashioned, put on the cozy robe hanging in the bathroom and went down the hall to my bestie’s room for a late night chats and giggles.

Flower & Wolf graciously served us breakfast on the patio the next morning and I realized once again, I was meant to live at hotels. 

Coffee, pancakes, omelettes and fresh juice, all things you can enjoy at home but for some reason so much better when served al fresco at a hotel in your own city.
