I am a seasoned second-hand shopper and I love the thrill of the deal. Thrift shops, auctions, estate sales, you name it…I love it! The problem is that I tend to hang on to everything I buy. I am not an intentional hoarder, I’m just a procrastinator. When I finally go through clothes and household items and sort out what is unused, I carefully stack it all up to give away, donate or consign but it never seems to make it out the door. Finally, out of frustration and lack of time, I load it all up and take it to the closest donation drop.
Apparently there is a group in Calgary that figured out a way to buy and sell clothing the easy way. The South Calgary Facebook Auction page has become so popular that the items posted are quickly lost in the feed that over 500o followers are posting to. Someone has come up with a brilliant solution called jBIDS. You can view listings on the website but jBIDS is also available in the Google Play store as a free app for Androids which is impressive in itself since the site is still in Beta. I checked it out and was very impressed with the clean layout and ease of use. (After the full launch of the site, the app will be available in the iTunes store.)
jBIDS is currently hosting a giveaway of a Google Nexus 7 tablet. You can find it on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/jbids.ca and entries are very easy!
So far, jBIDS, like the Facebook Auction group, is mostly utilized by people in South Calgary. I think that it will quickly change as Calgarians become aware that it is available. Think about it:
No more running to the consigment store to drop off clothing that may or may not be accepted!
No more getting only a percentage of your sale!
No more piles waiting by the door to be taken at a convenient time!
Posting a listing is simple, fast and at your convenience. You can also choose to be ultra-lazy and have a bin at your front door where the bidderpicks up the item and drops off the money–That is what I call easy!
Then there is the buying aspect! It’s all about the thrill of the deal! Auctions tend to make everything a little more exciting, right? And when you are at home bidding while wearing your pajamas and drinking an Earl Grey, I’d say you’re winning like Charlie Sheen!
