We had to get out and take advantage of the weather so Mom and I took Max to the Penguin Walk at the Zoo.   Until the end of February / early March, the King Penguins are going for a walk in the zoo from 11:00 to 11:15 (weather permitting and penguin willing).  We rushed in, late as always, a few minutes after 11.  Luckily, the end of the loop that they take the penguins on is right at the front entrance and there were a few place to pick from to view the walk up close.  They walked right by us all cute and waddly.   Max, who watches Mr. Popper’s Penguins on a regular basis, wanted to hold one .

If you are hesitant to visit the zoo in the winter, I would encourage you to check it out.  After their walk, the King Penguins were sunning themselves on a grassy hill outside.  That is something I never saw in the summer.  And the African Savannah building was a much better experience than normal.  The hippos and the giraffes are very visible because they are kept inside away from the cold.   You could hang out there and pretend you were someplace warm while you check out the porcupines snuggling each other, the curiously playful meerkats, or the red river hogs who are so odd looking that kept Max averting his eyes.

However you are occupying yourselves this winter, I hope you are having some cheerful days like this!
