It’s April 18th and it’s snowing in Calgary today. All day. Luckily for us, we have a brand new restaurant open that will lift your spirits no matter what the weather, Goro + Gun! I have been waiting for months for them to open so I could try their ramen so I’m really happy to tell you that the ramen is amazing!
The menu offers several additions that you can have in your ramen. One of the additions is butter (I will definitely be trying that!) and another of the additions is a smoked egg. It takes them 48 hours to smoke the egg and the outcome is pretty spectacular. When I took my first sip of ramen with a bite of the egg, I wanted to describe the experience as if I were at a whisky tasting. The charred smokiness of the egg was well-balanced in the ramen but definitely potent and lingering, perfectly chased by the exquisite sake that had been paired with the meal.
Chef Tomohiro Mitsuno produces a perfectly balanced pork broth using only pork bones, there is no MSG in his food. I was also impressed that Goro + Gun has their own house made chili sauce, soy sauce and chili oil. They are committed to clean, authentic flavours and the results are beyond satisfying!
I also highly recommend the rolls at Goro + Gun. I sampled four different rolls including the Spicy Tuna, and Lobster Rolls, and all of them made me want more.
Lastly, Goro + Gun is a destination for sake and craft beer lovers with a vast selection and very knowledgeable staff. Go to Goro + Gun, take your friends, and drink to their happiness. You will have no regrets! The sake that I had was Fukumitsuya Traditional Junmai Sake and it would be a great starting point for anyone.
Goro + Gun is located at #245 – 225 7th ave SW and is on the +15 Level ofthe Scotia Center.
