Mother’s Day is only a week away! Just in case you are a last-minute gift buyer like I am, I have put together a list of some of my favorite ideas for Mother’s Day this year. The best thing about everything on this list is that you can buy everything here in Calgary and they are tasteful, classy gifts but still very economical!
1. Attend a book launch with your mom. Meet the author, buy a book and get it signed!
I know that most people save the best suggestion for last but I’m going to give you my favorite suggestion right away because I really want you to consider it. Leanne Shirtliffe is a Calgary writer and mother and she has just published a book all about motherhood. The book is called Don’t Lick The Minivan and her big launch is on Saturday, May 11th. Take your mom, give her the valuable gift of your time and spend the evening celebrating motherhood. There will be live music, cash bar, door prizes, nibbles, general hilarity and you can buy your mom a copy of the book while you are there. Here is the link to the event Book Launch for Don’t Lick The Minivan. I’d love to see you there!
2. Pamper your mom with a BeautyGram!
If $70.00 is out of your price range, BeautyGram’s signature box is really nice and is only $40.00. Trust me, having a BeautyGram delivered is one of the best surprises in the world!
3. Plants in a Can!
Land and Sea is located in The Core (TD Square) and is packed full of unique gift ideas. It is definitely worth a visit anytime you need a gift but don’t know what to get. Land and Sea will give you so many options you won’t know what to do!
4. Scented Drawer Liners.
These gorgeous drawer liners are from PAPRYUS, located in The Core and Chinook Centre.
5. I don’t have a picture of this suggestion but ever since I spotted this tiny Gung Fu Teapot from David’s Tea I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. If your mom is a serious tea drinker, this is the perfect gift and it is only $14.50! You could round it out with some samples of the teas that everyone in Calgary seems to be raving about.
(in case you really want to splurge)
I love the idea of bidding on one of the bowls painted by members of the Calgary media at the Calgary Food Bank Auction. The auction doesn’t end until the Wednesday after Mother’s Day but it would still be an amazing gift a few days late. My favorite bowls are listed below, click through to see what else they are offering if you are the winning bid on their bowl. (Some of the packages are really awesome!)
For my Mother’s Day gift, I would like an apartment in NY so that I don’t have to be a single mom anymore. This is hard work! In all seriousness, which is hard to say right now because Max is wearing his underwear on his head while I write this, I am just happy to be a mom. Max is the best gift I have ever been given. I just need to remind myself of that when he’s driving me crazy!
What is the best Mother’s Day gift you have received or given?
